Research projects captured by REF2014 impact case studies (ICSs) can be used as an output variable to capture the respective outcomes and ramifications of RCUK and EU FP funding streams within British science and innovation systems. Using funding volumes for each ICS, productivity could be calculated in terms of PS1,000 investments required to obtain an RCUK-funded case study versus an EU FP-funded case study.
