## Summary

The Pig Health Scheme procurement process, managed by the Defra Network eTendering Portal, aims to monitor the health of English finishing pigs at slaughter, and is classified under the agricultural services industry. The tender, which began on 1st October 2018, is scheduled to run until 30th September 2021, with the possibility of two one-year extensions. It consists of two lots: Lot 1 focuses on training and quality assurance, while Lot 2 involves the physical scoring and assessment of pigs at multiple abattoirs. The current procurement method is an open procedure, allowing submissions until the deadline of 26th June 2018.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in agricultural services, particularly those specialising in veterinary training, quality assurance, or animal health assessments. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in these fields would be particularly well-suited to compete, as the tender encourages wide participation by allowing suppliers to apply for one or both parts. Overall, successful bidders will contribute to enhancing the health standards within the pig farming sector, ultimately supporting business growth in this area.

## Notice

The Pig Health Scheme monitors English finishing pigs at slaughter for prevalence and severity of specified health conditions. Note: sows and other ages of pigs are not included in this scheme. This scheme is available to all pig levy payers by signing up to the terms and conditions, and sending pigs to be assessed on specified days at each participating abattoir. Individual data can be benchmarked against averages for others within the scheme. The tender is to be split into two parts; training and quality assurance of the scheme (Lot 1) and the physical scoring/assessment (Lot 2). Tenderers are permitted to apply for one or both parts of the tender. Lot 1 is to provide robust training and quality assurance to the scheme. Lot 2 is to provide the scoring/assessment of the pigs at the specified abattoirs. Additional information: Tenders are invited for the provision of Lot 1 (training and quality assurance) and/or Lot 2 (physical scoring/assessment of carcasses) as part of the Pig Health Scheme from 1st October 2018 until 30th September 2021 with the option to extend for a further two,12 month periods.
