## Summary

The South Downs National Park Authority is currently managing a procurement process titled "Cut and Collect Verge Monitoring," aimed at enhancing biodiversity along roadside verges in West Sussex. The tender is classified under environmental monitoring and consultancy services and has a total value of £15,000. The open procedure, which falls below the threshold, has a tender period ending on 14 April 2021, with the contract set to commence on 10 May 2021 and lasting until 31 May 2024. Contractor proposals and further details can be submitted through the authority's electronic sourcing portal.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses focused on environmental services, particularly those with expertise in biodiversity monitoring and ecological consultancy. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are encouraged to participate, as the procurement is designed to be accessible to them. Firms with experience in innovative verge maintenance approaches and environmental assessments will find this contract particularly suitable as it aims to improve ecological outcomes while enhancing visual amenity in the region.

## Notice

Road verges have poor habitat value due to current verge maintenance regimes. Cut-and-Collect methods of verge maintenance have been shown, via projects in Dorset and Lincolnshire, to improve bio-diversity in roadside verges. This can provide better wildlife links and improved visual amenity over quick growing grasses and weeds (nettles, brambles etc). West Sussex County Council (WSCC) are in line to trial this method and South Downs National Park Authority (SDNPA) wishes to appoint a contractor to provide bio-diversity monitoring evidence including comparisons to control sites to show the change, if any, in the levels of bio-diversity within the monitoring areas. Additional information: SDNPA use an electronic sourcing portal to manage all tendering and quotation exercises and current and future contract opportunities can be viewed at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/southdowns. In order to view the full documents available it is necessary to register with the portal. Registration is free and only has to be done once. Is a Recurrent Procurement Type? : No
