## Summary

The procurement process is led by Public Health England (PHE), which is seeking proposals for the provision of a virus particle counting system under the title "PHE-Scientific Purchase of Virus Particle Counter." This procurement falls under the category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, with a total estimated value of £35,000. The tender is currently in the active stage, with a closing date for queries set for 6th April 2021 at 12:00 PM. The contract is anticipated to start on 8th April 2021 and conclude on 7th April 2022. This is an open procurement process being conducted below the threshold level.

This tender provides a valuable opportunity for businesses specialised in laboratory equipment and precision instrumentation to expand their market presence. Companies that can meet the specific technical requirements outlined, such as the ability to quantify virus particles within a precise size range and perform with minimal calibration, will be well-positioned to compete. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) particularly stand to benefit, given the suitability designation for such businesses, while larger companies with established expertise in similar technologies may also find this a strategic opportunity to engage with a significant public health initiative.

## Notice

Public Health England (PHE) requires the provision of a virus particle counting system for use in its Medical Interventions Group. The system will be used for quantification of virus banks required for the characterisation of fixed and/or live ACDP Hazard Group 2 and 3 agents. The proposed solution MUST be able to fulfil all of the following requirements: - Be able to quantify virus particles in inactivated banks of viruses (Generally chemically inactivated with aldehydes) - Be able to analyse particles within the size range of 30 nm to 10 um [bidders must be able to provide/state their size range and accuracy in nanometres]. - Be able to calculate the concentration of virus samples within the range of 1E05 to 1E11 / mL - Be able to give an indication of the size distribution of a preparation - Be able to analyse small volumes of sample [bidders must be able to provide/state the minimum sample size that can be tested] - Provide information on specific size subtypes. - Be able to characterize individual particles in a sample population - Be ready to run without the requirement for extensive calibration - Be portable for use at different sites with a minimum of set up and calibration after moving the instrument (bidders must be able to give an approximate set up time and an instrument weight in kg) - Be suitable for processing inactivated virus samples If you feel that you can meet the above requirements, please email Mihaela.Tinca@phe.gov.uk The closing date and time for any queries is 6th April 2021 at 12:00 pm
