## Summary

The National Highways organisation has concluded a procurement process under the title "T0625 Sustainable Geotechnical Measures: Comparative Life Cycle Assessment Part 2" falling within the Development Consultancy Services industry category. The contract was awarded following a selective procurement method using a call-off from a framework agreement. The tender document outlined a comprehensive life cycle carbon cost assessment task aimed at sustainable geotechnical measures (SGMs). This project, with a total value of £130,000, is set to commence on 24th January 2025 and conclude on 31st October 2025. The awarded contract, valued at £128,177.47, was issued on 24th January 2025, and publicly announced on 30th January 2025. The procurement stage of this process is now complete, with Atkins JV, a small to medium-sized enterprise, being the successful supplier. The contract covers a broad geographical scope including the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man, British Overseas Territories, and beyond.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in geotechnical engineering, sustainability, and environmental consultancy. Companies with expertise in low-carbon solutions, civil engineering, and infrastructure development may find this project particularly suitable. Given the nature of the work, it is well-suited for SMEs looking to expand their portfolios in sustainable practices within the infrastructure sector. Firms that can offer innovative, low-carbon alternatives and have experience in liaising with manufacturers for carbon reduction and recycling will have a competitive advantage in contributing to this important environmental task led by National Highways.

## Notice

This task will continue the work previously carried out under TO-348, which carried out life cycle carbon cost assessments of commonly used SGMs on the network; this may include different solution types not previously considered (e.g. crib walls, sheet piled walls) as well as other low carbon options currently rarely used; this may involve liaison with manufacturers to discuss carbon reduction, recycling etc. In addition, SGM's associated with widening techniques shall be considered, especially for embankments (e.g. mass concrete walls, crib walls, sheet piles, reinforced soil). If it is considered viable, a simple carbon comparison tool will be produced, to enable a quick, high-level assessment of environmental impact of SGM's to be made.
