## Summary

The University of Exeter has recently completed a procurement process for "Multiparameter Sondes for Fresh Water Monitoring," aimed at acquiring water quality monitoring equipment for the Upstream Thinking project, specifically focused on assessing water quality in both streams and reservoirs. This open tender, classified under the agricultural and related products industry, concluded on 15th February 2021, while the resulting contract commenced on 18th March 2021 and is set to last until 17th April 2026. The main delivery area for this procurement is the South West region of the United Kingdom, and the awarded contract is valued at approximately £336,922.48.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in environmental monitoring and water quality instrumentation, particularly those that can provide probes and marine equipment. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary community social enterprises (VCSEs) may find this tender particularly accessible, enabling them to engage with a well-known academic institution and contribute to important environmental projects. Companies that manufacture or supply advanced sensing technology and data logging equipment will be especially suited to compete in this procurement process.

## Notice

We are looking to purchase water quality monitoring equipment for the Upstream Thinking project, funded by South West Water. The project aims at understanding the impact of catchment interventions on water quality at catchment scale in both streams and reservoirs. The equipment will be deployed to give us an understanding of (1) turbidity and DOC issues in streams, and (2) algae blooms in reservoirs. In each environment, we seek to deploy a number of sondes (i.e. up to 28 in total) comprising the following combinations of parameters: Sonde A: o pH o Conductivity/temperature o Dissolved Oxygen o Turbidity Sonde B: o pH o Conductivity/temperature o Turbidity o fDOM Sonde C: o Turbidity o Dissolved Oxygen o Conductivity/temperature o Chlorophyll a o Phycocyanin The equipment will be deployed for a period of time and accessed periodically. It will need to include appropriate biofouling prevention, data logging and power capacity. The data download needs to be similar for all sensors, and all cables and/or hardware must be provided.
