## Summary

The procurement process, initiated by the CTM Portal for the NDA Shared Services Alliance, involves an open tender titled "Operational Safety Case Support to Engineering for External Hazards." This contract falls within the research and development services sector, specifically related to the nuclear industry. The tender is active and is set to close on 27 August 2019. The contract will start on 11 September 2019 and is expected to run until 31 March 2021, with a total estimated value of £160,000. Interested suppliers may deliver services to various locations, including the UK and Overseas Territories.

This tender presents opportunities for growth, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) that specialise in nuclear safety, engineering consultancy, and related fields. Businesses capable of providing expertise in climate change resilience and external hazard analysis would be well-positioned to compete effectively. The involvement in this contract can enhance their credibility and visibility in the nuclear sector, opening doors to further collaborations and projects.

## Notice

Nuclear Safety Case Support is required by RWM to support two key areas of engineering feasibility for a GDF related to External Hazards. Firstly, to support engineering studies on resilience to climate change, Safety Case input is required to define safety requirements for external hazards which could be exacerbated by climate change. This will provide the focus of the engineering studies on the feasibility of mitigation measures. Once mitigation measures to withstand the relevant external hazards have been developed, these can be incorporated into the relevant safety case databases to support the high-level claim that it is feasible that a GDF can tolerate design basis external hazards. This work will inform aspects of the GDF Site Evaluation process. Second, supporting engineering work on the feasibility of a coastal located GDF, Safety Case support is required to further define safety requirements for external hazards which could impact a GDF located on the coast. Further work will be required to understand the mitigation measures required for a coastal GDF to ensure defence against external hazards. This will ensure that any claims made are robustly backed up to demonstrate that it is both feasible and safe to operate a GDF in a coastal location. As part of this contract, a call-off allowance is to be included in order to provide additional safety case support on external hazards, the scope of which will be defined during the contract.
