## Summary

The Cambridge City Council is seeking tenders for the automation of Bishop's Mill sluice, a construction project aimed at enhancing water management in the River Cam. This procurement falls under the "Construction work for water projects" category, with the tender period ending on 8th February 2022. The successful contractor will be tasked with designing and installing automated sluice gates to control water levels, which must commence work by 7th March 2022 and be completed by 30th December 2022. This project uses an open procurement method, allowing a wide range of suppliers to participate.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses specialising in water management systems and automation technologies, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with relevant expertise in system design and construction works. Companies that offer innovative solutions for water level control or those with experience in hydraulics and automated systems may find this an advantageous contract to pursue, contributing to both environmental sustainability and flood risk management in the region.

## Notice

The Cambridge City Council would like to automate Bishop's Mill sluice. The intention is to automate the gates by measuring the water level of the River Cam and automatically adjusting the sluice gate heights to control the upstream water level to within an acceptable margin. The aim of the automation is to: - Reduce the number of times an operator needs to attend the site. - Prevent overtopping of the banks - To improve water level regulation to reduce upstream flood risk and to maintain water levels on the river. The previous studies indicated that existing sluice is suitable for automation. The Contractor will be required to design and install the automation of Bishop's Mill sluice by using the existing power supply (by having access to the supply 24/7) and replacing the existing actuators.
