## Summary

The Camden Clinical Commissioning Group (CCCG) is seeking a suitably qualified provider to deliver the DIY Health Education Programme aimed at parents of children under five. The contract, valued between £25,000 and £30,000, will be awarded for a duration of one year starting from 1 February 2017 until 31 January 2018. The bidding period for this tender ends at noon on 16 January 2017. The programme will be located in London and falls under the health and first-aid training services industry category, requiring the successful provider to co-develop courses that educate parents on managing minor childhood ailments.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in health education, training services, and community engagement. Companies that focus on healthcare, provide training for parents, or integrate professional expertise in child health (such as health visitors and pharmacists) would be particularly well-suited to compete. The initiative not only aims to enhance parental knowledge and confidence but also seeks to reduce unnecessary healthcare visits, creating a potential long-term impact on service demand in the NHS.

## Notice

Camden CCG wishes to engage with a suitably qualified provider for one year to deliver further courses for their DIY Health Education Programme for parents of children under 5 years old. The contract value for this pilot service should be between PS25,000 and PS30,000 excluding VAT. DIY Health Pilot - Background Camden Clinical Commissioning Group (CCCG) recently undertook a review of children and young people's healthcare services in Camden. One of the results of this review, called All Together Better (ATB) found that: * Two-thirds of children attending Emergency Departments need no or very minor investigation or treatment - so potentially care could have been provided outside of hospital. Children under five account for the largest proportion of these attendances. * Similarly, 20% of outpatient appointments with a general paediatrician in hospitals did not need input from a paediatrician. * Parents consulted for the review reported variable levels of awareness about where to go for advice about how to manage minor illness, such as the minor ailment scheme and 111. Usage of these services was low amongst those attending Emergency Departments. As a result it was agreed to run a pilot programme that identifies parents of children aged under five years old that attend ED or the GP practice more frequently than their peers and to work with that group of parents to co-produce a programme that enables them to correctly identify and manage minor ailments at home, to understand the appropriate sources of advice and support, be more comfortable in accessing a range of services and be more confident and capable parents, which will have cost saving benefits for the NHS. The pilot programme was delivered in September to November 2016. The pilot consisted of two 8 weeks courses being delivered in the north and south of Camden borough. Additional funding has been secured to deliver 2 further courses. One year has been allocated to this contract to provide time for the evaluation. Additional information: Project description The objective of the programme is to increase parent's knowledge and confidence so that they can correctly identify and manage minor childhood ailments, be comfortable in dealing with cuts, bumps and other childhood injuries, and be able to identify the most appropriate services for their family's needs. The successful provider will: * Work with the commissioner and other providers to recruitment of parents. This will include supporting GP Practices by making follow up calls. * Work with the Commissioners and the cohort of parents to better understand their needs and to co-produce two courses of up to eight training events covering a range of topics such as, cold and flu, diarrhoea, vomiting, feeding, ear ache, choking, cuts, bumps and other childhood injuries. The actual content to be determined by the group of parents. * Enlist relevant professionals (health visitors, GP's, paediatrician, pharmacists, family support workers etc.) to deliver the weekly training sessions and fund their attendance to deliver the session. * Deliver a minimum of 2 courses, each course containing up to 8 weekly sessions depending on the needs of the group. * Following the delivery of the training events, evaluate the project against the agreed outcomes. Outcomes envisaged parents reporting increased knowledge and confidence in looking after the health of their child and family. Evaluation tools to be used to be agreed with Commissioners The commissioner will conduct further evaluation 1 year later to see if the results have been sustained and whether there has been a reduction in attendances. The successful provider is expected to commence mobilisation of the project including recruitment of parents in the February 2017 and run the Course during March to May 2017.
