## Summary

The procurement process for the "BCG External Auditor" contract has been awarded by the Defra Network eTendering Portal. This contract, categorised under animal husbandry services, involves auditing the field trials of the BCG cattle vaccine and its companion DIVA test to ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice Veterinary (GCPvet). The contract spans from 1st March 2021 to 29th February 2024, with a total value of £135,000. The procurement method used was a single tender action below the threshold, and the tender was completed on 22nd February 2021.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in veterinary medicine auditing and related services. Companies with expertise in Good Clinical Practice protocols, particularly those who can demonstrate experience in auditing veterinary medicines for cattle, would be well-suited to engage in similar contracts. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as these organisations can contribute valuable skills and insights to enhance animal health and welfare in the UK.

## Notice

This expenditure is to cover the auditing of the cattle vaccine and companion DIVA test field trails to Good Clinical Practice Veterinary (GCPvet). APHA are currently planning to run field trials to verify experimental data to enable the application for veterinary medicine certification for the use of BCG cattle vaccine and its companion DIVA skin test to enhance current TB controls in GB. To assist in this programme APHA require an independent Auditor that has had previous experience of GCPvet field trails of veterinary medicines for cattle. The auditor will proactively provide independent external assurance to the sponsor that the study meets the requirements of GCPvet. This will include auditing of the protocol for likely problems and potential non compliances before the field trials begin, compliance by the Contract Research Organisation (CRO) with the protocol, that amendments and deviations from the protocol are appropriately recorded, reported and controlled. The final report from the CRO must be audited by the external auditor. Interim and final reports from the auditor will be expected regarding compliance of the trials to GCPvet.
