## Summary

The Department of Transport is seeking to award a contract titled "Traffic Signals Analytics as a Service", which falls under the category of research and development consultancy services. This procurement, classified as a direct single tender action, had a tender period that ended on 5th December 2018 and will see the contract commencing on 9th January 2019 and concluding on 3rd April 2019. The project involves collaboration with four UK local authorities, utilising GPS data from vehicles to enhance traffic signal management. The total value of the contract is £49,440, which will be paid in GBP.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for businesses operating in the fields of data analytics, transport consultancy, or technology services, particularly those with expertise in GPS data utilisation and traffic management solutions. With the Department of Transport as the contracting authority, suppliers capable of innovating in the transport sector and improving upon existing services will be well-positioned to compete. Businesses with a strong background in research and development, particularly in affecting real-time transport solutions, are encouraged to engage with this opportunity.

## Notice

GPS location data from vehicles is already successfully used by authorities for journey time monitoring - aggregating data from many vehicles to give an average value over a route. This project will use GPS data from individual vehicles as the approach traffic light stop lines, with Local Authority signal data to build 'signal trajectories'. It expands on the successful T-TRIG project already undertaken with Transport for West Midlands (TfWM). This project will broaden the scope by working with four different UK local authorities with an increased amount of GPS data.
