## Summary

The Science Museum Group recently completed a procurement process for the "SIM Operation Ouch! Senses Exhibition Interactive Exhibits" project. This project falls under the museum-exhibition services category and focuses on creating an engaging, multi-sensory exhibition at the Science and Industry Museum. The primary focus of this exhibition is sensory perception, inspired by the popular CBBC TV show "Operation Ouch!". The buying organisation, Science Museum Group, based in London, initiated the open procedure process for contract award. The procurement reached the award stage on 11 November 2024, with the tender period concluding on 31 July 2024. The contract spans from 25 September 2024 to 30 September 2025, offering substantial opportunity for creative and mechanical interactive exhibit makers.

This tender presents significant business opportunities, especially for companies skilled in fabricating mechanical interactive exhibits. Businesses like FifeX [Scotland] Ltd, which secured the award, exemplify the type of innovative, technically proficient companies that this project is suited for. The exhibition aims to deliver a playful and dynamic setting, requiring businesses that can blend creativity with technical skills to produce large-scale, interactive exhibits. SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) are particularly encouraged, presenting a growth opportunity for smaller businesses to collaborate with a reputable organisation like the Science Museum Group. The emphasis on interactivity and visitor engagement ensures diverse business growth and the expansion of expertise in the museum and cultural sectors.

## Notice

The museum is devoted to inspiring visitors through ideas that change the world, from the Industrial Revolution to today and beyond. The site houses four listed buildings; two of them Grade I Listed - the Station building, the original terminus of the world's first inter-city railway, and the 1830 Warehouse. We combine the distinctive appeal of the historic site with a vibrant contemporary science programme, making connections between the past and the present, between scientific theory and real-world applications. Building on the overwhelming success of the previous exhibition Operation Ouch! Food, Poo and You at the Science and Industry Museum, we are creating an exhibition based on the theme of sensory perception with the working title Operation Ouch! Senses. For this exhibition, we are working in collaboration with the producers of the BAFTA award winning CBBC TV show Operation Ouch! and the BBC to bring to life the essence of the show in a physical format. Operation Ouch! is presented by three doctors, Dr Chris van Tulleken, Dr Xand van Tulleken and Dr Ronx Ikharia who will feature throughout the exhibition. We will be bringing the hilarity, sense of fun and the open and honest approach from the TV show to an exhibition filled with visually bold encounters, super-sized setworks, playful soundscape and engaging interactive exhibits. Set in a series of dynamic zones, visitors will explore each of the major senses (and some hidden ones too) through integrated interactives, illusions and fascinating content. Visitors will journey through a giant wax-filled ear, encounter a larger-than-life brain, experience different zones dedicated to fascinating and stimulating the senses before being sneezed out of an enormous nose. We are seeking a mechanical interactive exhibit making company to create seven interactive exhibits for the Operation Ouch! Senses exhibition. The exhibition is a multi-sensory experience, and the mechanical interactive exhibit maker will help deliver an imaginative, playful and dynamic setting for adults, families and school groups.
