## Summary

The Department of Health and Social Care has completed a procurement process for the tender titled "Tier 2 Dementia training pilot for Social Care Workforce". This initiative falls within the services category and involves a budget of £50,000. The project aims to test a blended learning approach for dementia training modules from January to May 2020, with the pilot focusing on developing tailored training materials for the social care workforce. The procurement was a direct method, characterised as a single tender action due to its low value. The tender period concluded on 3rd January 2020, while the contract period for this initiative commenced on 6th January 2020 and ends on 1st May 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations, particularly those with expertise in training and educational services related to healthcare and social care. Businesses specialising in e-learning, training resources, and evaluation processes would be particularly well-suited to compete for similar tenders in the future. The focus on a digital-first approach also opens avenues for innovative service providers capable of minimising costs while delivering high-quality training materials tailored to diverse audiences.

## Notice

SCIE will undertake a pilot to test the blended learning approach on 2 of the 12 Tier 2 modules between January 2020 - April 2020. An iterative approach should be taken to ensure that the language and content is context specific and appropriate for the audience. This requires: - Training materials explicitly mapped against 2 of the 12 topics that make up the Tier 2 level of the Dementia Framework, based upon a blended learning approach which would include e-learning modules and support resources for training leads or managers (identified as the preferred approach in the scoping phase). This would take a 'digital first' approach to minimise costs of resources and increase the sustainability of the model. - Fully tested materials with users (both staff and managers) taking an iterative approach to development. The testing and amending will take a staged approach; starting with one care home with detailed feedback; then five care homes; then twenty care homes. - Development of additional training materials as required (where possible, drawing on existing training materials to minimise duplication) - Evaluation of the training approach - Recommendations for the full training programme development
