Previously Ocean Biogeochemistry and Ecosystems (OBE) purchased one of these 10 channel optodes to see if the device can meet the requirements for the LOCATE project. After 4 months of test it has been decided to purchase 3 more system to use with the incubation devices being built by Ocean Technology and Engineering Group (OTEG) National Oceanography Centre (NOC). OTEG have been commissioned by OBE to build three complete incubation system looking at three distinct incubations - respiration, photolysis and primary production using oxygen as a proxy. In order to make these measurements each incubation needs to be carried out in triplicates and oxygen levels need to be monitored every 30-60 min for a 2 week period. To make the required level of Oxygen measurements a 10 channel system is required. A single optode system would not be fit for purpose since the experiments would them require 24 hour attention for 2 week on end. This is the only product on the market with 10 optodes per unit. The optodes will be used in the OTEG designed incubation units to meet the needs of the LOCATE project.
