Highbury Wood forms part of the Wye Valley Woodlands Special Area of Conservation, is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and lies within the Wye Valley Area of outstanding Natural Beauty. There are a series of Public Rights of Way (PROWs) running through Highbury Wood including the Offa's Dyke National Trail meaning the woodland is well used by both local and long-distance walkers. Ash dieback is widespread within Highbury Wood and to maintain long-term public safety it is necessary to remove diseased ash trees along PROWs and access tracks within the wood.
