## Summary

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has initiated a procurement process for the provision of general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and corporate workwear. The tender, titled "Defra Group Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)", falls under the industry category of protective and safety clothing (CPV: 35113400) with additional classifications in protective footwear (CPV: 18830000). This selective procurement process follows a restricted procedure designed to cater to above-threshold goods procurement requirements. The tender process is currently active, with a submission deadline set for 25 March 2025. The contract is anticipated to commence on 1 April 2026 and will run until 31 March 2031, covering delivery to locations including the United Kingdom, British Overseas Territories, Channel Islands, Europe, Isle of Man, and other global regions.

This tender presents significant opportunities for business growth, particularly for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), due to the emphasis on high sustainability standards and the division of requirements into lots. Businesses specialising in the supply of a wide range of PPE and workwear, including emergency response gear like breathing apparatus and chainsaw trousers, as well as single-use items such as brushes and disposable gloves, will find this tender highly pertinent. Suppliers are expected to handle large volume orders swiftly, especially in emergency scenarios like disease outbreaks or floods. Companies with capabilities in delivering durable, high-quality protective gear swiftly and sustainably are well-positioned to compete and benefit from this substantial procurement valued at £17.5 million GBP.

## Notice

The requirement is for general Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Corporate Workwear for Defra and it's 33 agencies/Non-Departmental Public Bodies (NDPB's). Many of Defra's and it's Arm's Length Bodies (ALB's) staff work in the field and there are a wide variety of different terrains which need to be catered for. This contract is to provide the means to order from an approved list of clothing and PPE. This will include basics such as branded polo tops and fleeces as well as more complex gear such as breathing apparatus and chainsaw trousers. The suppliers need to be able to cope in emergency situations e.g. disease outbreaks or floods to deliver large quantities quickly. There is also an element of equipment and single use PPE such as mops, brushes and disposable gloves and masks. We are keen to promote high sustainability standards in the market and have divided the requirement into Lots to encourage Small and Medium Enterprises (SME's) to apply.
