## Summary

Durham University is conducting a procurement process for a "100mKelvin Refrigerator" as part of its research at the Centre for Advanced Instrumentation. This process, classified under the industry category of laboratory, optical, and precision equipment, falls under an open procurement method and is currently in the award stage. The contract has been awarded for a value of £189,187.58, with the awarded contract period starting on 6th December 2019 and ending on 30th June 2023. The original tender was published on 30th September 2019, and the tender period concluded on 16th October 2019. The refrigerator will be used to further enhance research in superconducting detectors, distributed across Durham and the nearby North East Technology Park.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialised in scientific instrumentation and equipment manufacturing. Companies that focus on producing laboratory-grade refrigerators, particularly those with advanced cooling technologies, would be well-placed to compete. Since the procurement process followed an open procedure, it welcomed a broad range of suppliers, allowing both larger companies and innovative startups in the technology sector to participate in future tenders from Durham University and similar institutes. Engaging in such contracts can enhance a business's profile and foster valuable partnerships in the academic sector.

## Notice

The Centre for Advanced Instrumentation is 1 of the major research groups in the Physics Department at Durham University with approximately 70 staff and research students. It is distributed across 2 physical locations, 1 of which is in the new Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics on the University science site in Durham and the other is at the North East Technology Park (NETPark), an internationally recognised location for science and technology companies, based about 10 miles away in Sedgefield, Co. Durham. CfAI develops state-of-the-art instruments for application across a wide range of disciplines including astronomical instrumentation, biophysics, remote sensing and fusion diagnostics. One of our areas of research is superconducting detectors, namely the development of kinetic inductance detectors. We require a suitable refrigerator to accelerate our expanding research in this field. To register and interest click: http://events.transaxions.com/service.aspx?event=6804
