## Summary

The public procurement process, initiated by UK Shared Business Services Limited, involves the award of a contract titled "UKSBS RE18258 3 Nortek Vector ADVs" for the supply of three acoustic Doppler velocimeters (ADVs) designed for single-point velocity measurements in challenging coastal and estuarine environments. The tender was classified under the CPV code 32342400 (Acoustic devices) and was executed through a direct procurement method, specifically a single tender action, as it fell below a predetermined threshold. The contract period commenced on 8th June 2018 and will run until 6th June 2019, with a total contract value of approximately £29,554.50. This award became active on 7th June 2018, with the contract details published on 15th June 2018.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in advanced acoustic measurement technologies and instrumentation. Companies capable of providing robust ADVs that can function without the need for external power would be particularly well-suited to compete. Potential suppliers may include manufacturers of scientific equipment, especially those with experience in harsh environmental conditions such as nearshore and estuarine settings. Engaging in this contract can enhance a business's visibility and support growth in the specialised field of hydrological and environmental monitoring.

## Notice

Three acoustic Doppler velocimeters (ADV) for single point velocity measurements are required for field observations of currents, turbulence, and sediment fluxes. The instrument functions by sending an acoustic ping, which is scattered by natural particles in the water and received by three transducers. ADVs are the state-of-the-art instruments for single point measurements. Important features of the ADV are the single-point measurement of the three components velocity (u,v,w) from which the three turbulent fluctuating components (u',v',w') can be extracted, and the fast sampling rates. These fast sampling rates (faster than 8 Hz and often up to 32 Hz) are required to resolve the entire turbulence spectra, and slower rates severely limit the scientific validity of the data. The backscatter signal can also be used for sediment fluxes. The instrument must also be designed for use in harsh nearshore (beaches, surf zones) and estuarine environments. A laboratory version of the ADV exists, but for the work of the National Oceanography Centre these are not appropriate as we require robust instruments that are able to be deployed without a computer or external power supply.
