## Summary

The Department for Transport (DfT) is seeking to procure a Computer Tomography Cabin Baggage Screening System through an open tender process. This initiative falls under the goods category, specifically within research and development services related to transport services. The tender was published on 12 January 2022, with a deadline for submissions set for 10 February 2022, and the initial contract period is scheduled to commence on 28 February 2022, lasting until 31 March 2024. The system will be delivered to the DfT's address in London, SW1P 4DR, and aims to enhance security capabilities through the procurement of advanced detection technology.

This procurement offers valuable opportunities for businesses in the security equipment and technology sectors, particularly those focusing on innovative research and development solutions. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) are encouraged to participate, as their capabilities in manufacturing or installing explosive detection systems may align well with the DfT's requirements. Engaging with this project could help expand their market presence and showcase their products in a high-traffic domain, contributing to public safety initiatives.

## Notice

The DfT carries out evaluations of commercially available security equipment testing automated detection capability against performance standards. As part of the continuing increase in security capability, the DfT are looking to purchase commercial equipment in support of its R&D program to assist in the speed of deployment of new algorithms and better systems. As part of that program the DfT Research, Analysis and Development (RAD) team are looking to purchase an explosive detection system for cabin baggage (EDSCB) computer tomography x-ray system. The scope of this work is for the purchase, delivery and installation of one standalone CT system with an EDSCB C3 approved algorithm and a functioning automated prohibited items capability (APIDS) algorithm.
