## Summary

NHS England has launched a tender titled "Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMA) psychological training boost," aimed at commissioning an evaluated training programme to enhance the emotional well-being and resilience of nurses and midwives. This tender falls under the health services category and is based in Leeds, England. The procurement process is currently in the active stage, with a value of £40,000. The tender period concluded on 22nd October 2021, while the contract is set to commence on 3rd January 2022 and run until 31st March 2022. The procurement method used for this process is a limited competitive quotation below threshold.

This tender presents an excellent opportunity for training providers, particularly those with expertise in psychological training and professional development within the healthcare sector. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) may find themselves well-suited to compete, especially if they have experience in delivering training programmes that address mental health challenges faced by healthcare professionals post-COVID-19. The successful bidder will play a vital role in supporting the workforce's resilience, ultimately contributing to improved staff retention and well-being.

## Notice

The Authority is looking to commission an evaluated training programme that will support an evidence-based, patient-centred alternative to centre-based cardiac rehabilitation. This will address the latest NICE guidance recommendation that patients with HF are offered 'a personalised, exercise-based CR programme in a format and setting (at home, in the community or in the hospital) that is easily accessible for the person.' Bespoke psychological training boost for Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMA) is required for nurses and midwives due to increased mental health challenges amongst these professional groups due to the challenges and thereafter of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Advocating for Education and Quality Improvement (A-EQUIP) model of midwifery supervision, co-produced with women, midwives, educationalists, leaders from the nursing and midwifery professions, commissioners and the Royal College of Midwives, was launched in 2017. One of the four functions of A-EQUIP is Restorative Clinical Supervision (RCS). RCS involves the creation of thinking space, supporting the practitioner to physically and mentally 'slow down', through a process of discussion, reflective conversation, supportive challenge and open and honest feed-back. Implementation of RCS has been demonstrated to help address the emotional needs of staff and support their increased resilience, including: * Have a positive impact on the immediate wellbeing of staff * Help staff feel 'valued' by their employer investing in them and their wellbeing * Influence a significant reduction in stress * Influence a significant reduction in burnout * Improve the compassion and job satisfaction of staff * Improve the retention of staff * Reduce stress levels whilst maintaining compassion * Improve working relationships and team dynamics * Help staff to manage work/life balance more effectively * Increase enjoyment and satisfaction related to work (Pettit and Stephen 2015). The above outcomes of RCS have become of paramount importance during and after the pandemic. Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMAs) are already trained in the A-EQUIP model (including RCS) and as such are well placed to provide ongoing RCS support to the workforce.
