## Notice

The National Centre for Computing Education (NCCE) are seeking to appoint a number of consultants to work with schools and colleges to promote the development of their computing and computer science curriculum. The NCCE is funded by the Department for Education and marks a significant investment in improving the provision of computing education in England. Run by a consortium made up of STEM Learning, the Raspberry Pi Foundation and BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, our vision is to achieve a world-leading computing education for every child in England. We provide high-quality support for the teaching of computing in schools and colleges, from Key Stage 1 through to A level. Our extensive range of training, resources and support covers elements of the curriculum at every Key Stage, catering for all levels of subject knowledge and experience. The CS Champion function can be taken up by one person or shared between several people. This will be based on the region's needs analysis, secondary experience needed and the reach the CS Champion needs to achieve. Reporting directly to a Computing Hub team member, supporting them in meeting their KPIs, with oversight of the CS Champions provided by the CSA Programme Manager. The role of a CS Champion is to ensure that there are a sufficient number of teachers actively engaged, and completing the programme to ensure that the regional and national KPIs are achieved for this programme, which focuses on the training of teachers to be confident in their computer science subject knowledge up to GCSE. The CS Champion may also be called upon to drive the awareness raising and profile of the Computing CPD opportunities across and beyond the regions to build the capability, capacity and reach of the CS Accelerator programme, with a prime focus on upskilling teachers to deliver the GCSE curriculum. Key objectives for the CS Champion are to achieve: - A minimum level of engagement in the CSA programme, as set out in the target plan for their defined region. - A minimum level of completion of the CSA Programme, as set out in the target plan for their defined region. - Actively supporting and 'nudging' teachers through the programme, providing both generic and bespoke support as/when required. Essential Skills and expertise required from interested consultants: - Excellent knowledge of computing education. - Excellent subject knowledge and pedagogical understanding. - The ability to, and experience of, developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including schools and colleges. - Good understanding of the wider educational landscape, and relevant regional issues, challenges and opportunities. - Highly developed all-round communication skills, orally and in writing. - Ability to think analytically and strategically, and respond creatively to challenges. - Experience of working remotely with colleagues to deliver successful outcomes. Additional information: Posts will be based in a region, to achieve full geographical coverage, and will support a number of secondary schools and colleges within their assigned region, working closely with their appropriate Computing Hubs. Start date: September 2021 Length of opportunity: Until end of July 2022 Location of the Work: Working primarily from home, with occasional travel to the Computing Hub or other schools within the region to provide face-to-face support to a group of teachers. The potential number of days available for this contract will vary based on the need within the Computing Hubs regions. Reasonable travel expenses will be paid by or from the computing hub and will be in line with STEM Learning's expenses policy.
