## Summary

The procurement process titled "Provision of Electrical Infrastructure Upgrade Gambia" is being conducted by the UK Shared Business Services Limited (UK SBS), an organisation focused on enhancing public sector efficiency. This tender falls under the goods category, specifically for electrical installation work, and targets the Medical Research Council's (MRC) unit in The Gambia, located approximately nine miles from Banjul. The procurement method utilised is an open procedure, with the tender period originally set to end on 4th April 2016.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in electrical infrastructure upgrades, as the MRC's increasing demand for power necessitates enhancements to their existing systems. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in electrical installation and project management would be particularly well-suited to compete. Given the emphasis on improving operational efficiency within the public sector, businesses that align their offerings with the needs of organisations like UK SBS are likely to find fruitful avenues for growth and collaboration.

## Notice

*** The procurement procedure did not result in a contract award as no suitable offers were made. *** The Medical Research Council (MRC) is an organisation dedicated to improving human health. The organisation supports research across the entire spectrum of medical science, in universities and hospitals, in its own units, centres and institutes in the UK, and in units in Africa. The MRC's main Unit in The Gambia is situated in Fajara, Kombo St. Mary's, approximately nine miles from the capital Banjul. The Unit operates over a 100 acre site which consists of research and clinical laboratory facilities (up to ACDP containment level 3), the Unit is also home to the busy clinical services department, the Unit's biobank, as well as approximately 40 residential units of various sizes. A number of new facilities are proposed across the Unit, and the resultant increased demand identifies a shortage in the available electrical supply. This shortfall necessitates an upgrade of the existing low voltage electrical infrastructure and supporting on site generation systems. UK Shared Business Services Ltd (UK SBS) brings a commercial attitude to the public sector; helping our customers improve efficiency, generate savings and modernise. It is our vision to become the leading provider for our customers of shared business services in the UK public sector, continuously reducing cost and improving quality of business services for Government and the public sector. Core services include Procurement, Finance, Grants Admissions, Human Resources, Payroll, ISS, and Property Asset Management all underpinned by our Service Delivery and Contact Centre teams. UK SBS is a people rather than task focused business. It's what makes us different to the traditional transactional shared services centre. What is more, being a not-for-profit organisation owned by its customers, UK SBS' goals are aligned with the public sector and delivering best value for the UK taxpayer. UK Shared Business Services Ltd changed its name from RCUK Shared Services Centre Ltd in March 2013. Growing from a foundation of supporting the Research Councils, 2012/13 saw Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) transition their procurement to UK SBS and Crown Commercial Service (CSS - previously Government Procurement Service) agree a Memorandum of Understanding with UK SBS to deliver two major procurement categories (construction and research) across Government. UK SBS currently manages PS700m expenditure for its Customers, our growth projections anticipate this will rise to PS1bn in 2013/14. Important information.
