One of proposed ways to limit greenhouse gas emissions and improve on the issue of climate change is to introduce a carbon tax on companies. Under a carbon tax, the government sets a price that emitters must pay for each ton of greenhouse gas emissions they emit. This however will have a knock-on effect on the food system and how we provide affordable food for all. To this end, WWF wishes to contract a suitably experienced party that can co-ordinate a research paper that assesses the potential implications of a carbon tax on the food value chain in the UK and begin to explore policy and implementation solutions to ensure a just transition.
