## Summary

The procurement process for the "Ion Chromatography System with Mass Spectrometer" is being led by Durham University, a prominent institution in geographical research located in North East England. This requirement falls under the goods category, specifically for chromatographs, with a total estimated value of £154,000. The procurement method selected is an open procedure, and the tender period is set to conclude on 9th October 2019. The delivery of the goods is expected to commence on 1st December 2019 and extend until 30th November 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses involved in scientific instruments and analytical equipment. Suppliers that specialise in chromatography technologies and mass spectrometry systems would be particularly well-suited to compete for this contract. Engaging with Durham University could lead to further collaborations and future procurement opportunities, given its status as a leading research institution.

## Notice

The Department of Geography at Durham is one of the leading centres of geographical research and education in the world. We have been ranked in the top 10 for 7 consecutive years in the QS World University Rankings by Subject (2019). The laboratories within the Department of Geography contain an extensive suite of analytical and geotechnical instruments which are overseen and supported by a team of dedicated technical staff. Our laboratories facilitate world class research and are used extensively in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Our current ion chromatography system is greater than 13 years old and is becoming increasingly difficult to maintain and repair. In order to continue to provide research level analysis, this system requires replacing (Lot 1). In anticipation of future directions of research, we also seek to purchase a mass spectrometer (Lot 2) that links to this new ion chromatography system.
