## Summary

Highways England is seeking to enhance its operations through the tender titled "T0105 Highways England Drone Operating Standards & Requirements." This procurement process is categorised under the industry of research and development services, with a total contract value of £299,962.85. The contract period runs from 8th June 2021 to 31st March 2022, following the tender's conclusion on 4th June 2021. The procurement method employed is selective, specifically as a call-off from a framework agreement, allowing for a structured approach in managing the deployment and operational standards for drones within the organisation's projects across the UK.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses, particularly those involved in drone technology, consultancy in operational standards, and asset management services. Companies that specialise in innovative technology solutions, safety protocols, and construction consultancy may find themselves well-equipped to compete for this contract. Given the growing importance of drones in infrastructure projects, especially for enhancing efficiency and safety in construction and incident management, businesses that align with these needs will be at an advantage in this evolving market.

## Notice

As part of 'Connecting the Country - Planning for the Long Term" strategy, Highways England has stated it will explore a range of options to make construction work even safer and more efficient, including opportunities for using drones to help inspect and manage our assets and to support incident management. Drones are starting to be used extensively across the network, so Highways England needs to have a joined-up approach to safely manage and operate all drone activities within the business. We have published our first drone policy and established a cross directorate drone governance/working group to manage the growing drone usage. Our drone policy is just the starting point; we now need to further develop our requirements to safely facilitate our use of drones to support design, construction, operation and maintenance (asset management/ traffic management/incident management and media operations) activities across our network.
