## Summary

The University of Bristol is currently planning a procurement for the project titled "Automated Composites Integrity (NDT & Metrology) Capability", which focuses on the acquisition of equipment aimed at enhancing manufacturing research and development in the field of composites. This tender falls under the miscellaneous general and special-purpose machinery industry category (CPV code: 42900000) and is associated with an engagement period that will end on 23 February 2018. The equipment is intended to support various non-destructive testing (NDT) and metrology technologies, requiring significant integration and flexibility for future developments.

This opportunity presents considerable potential for businesses specialising in automated systems, non-destructive testing technologies, and metrology solutions, particularly those that can offer innovative approaches to equipment design and integration. Companies capable of providing either new systems or adapting existing manual equipment may find themselves well-positioned to compete in this procurement. Participating in the market engagement will allow these businesses to influence the procurement process and may lead to further discussions that could enhance their chances in the forthcoming tender.

## Notice

The National Composites Centre intends to procure equipment to provide an Automated Composites Integrity Capability to be used for manufacturing research and development purposes. The functional requirements for the capability are being confirmed with the industry. It is envisaged that the equipment will deliver a state of the art and flexible automated non-destructive testing (NDT) and metrology cell for predominantly composite components and assemblies with an operating envelope of 10m x 5m x 5m with the option to extend the linear length from 10m to 20m. The key technologies required initially are ultrasonic (UT) NDT, including a smaller component water immersion tank, shearography NDT, thermography NDT and non-contact metrology using photogrammetry. These may be new systems sourced as part of this procurement or the use of existing manual equipment. A key feature of the capability is integration of different inspection technologies into an automated system and the requirement to be flexible and allow future off-the-shelf inspection equipment to be added and integrated. The NCC intends to use the information gathered to shape the proposed procurement process and specification for this project. Commercially confidential information should therefore be marked accordingly. Following consideration of responses the NCC may wish to engage in further discussions with the respondents which may also further help to inform any subsequent Tender documentation. Participating in this market sounding exercise will not guarantee short-listing at a later stage in the procurement, nor will non-participation in this market sounding exercise restrict access to the tender opportunity. As a result of feedback or for any other reason, the NCC may make the decision not to go ahead with any proposed procurement exercise. The NCC will not meet any costs incurred by any party in responding to this notice. The NCC reserves the right to award all, none, or part of the business.
