## Summary

EH Curatorial (Collections and Conservation) has completed the procurement process for the supply of a Portable Fourier-transform Infrared (FTIR) spectrometer to supplement their existing Bruker Alpha spectrometer. The tender, classified under the industry category "Spectroscopy devices" (CPV code 33114000), was specifically for analysing historic collections in situ across various English Heritage sites. The open procedure procurement method concluded with the contract being awarded to Agilent Technologies LDA UK Ltd. Key dates include the tender period closing on 5 September 2024, and the contract period running from 20 September 2024 to 31 March 2025. This procurement process is indicative of the organisation's commitment to preserving and understanding its extensive collection, which spans from prehistoric to modern materials.

This procurement presents substantial opportunities for businesses specialised in spectroscopic equipment and services. Companies that can supply, install, and maintain advanced analytical instruments, while also providing training and long-term support, are well-suited to compete for similar contracts. Smaller enterprises and those with a focus on historic preservation and analytical instrumentation for arts and heritage organisations could find significant growth potential through such tender opportunities. The contract valued at approximately £41,498.58 highlights the investment made by English Heritage in preserving its collection, suggesting ongoing needs for similar procurements in the future.

## Notice

English Heritage Conservation Science team are seeking to procure portable FTIR spectroscopy to supplement the existing Bruker Alpha spectrometer. This will supplement existing equipment to analyse historic collections in situ, at English Heritage sites across the country. The English Heritage collection spans from prehistoric to modern materials, with a large archaeological collection and archive, as well as fine and decorative arts, and social history. Analysis of these materials helps identify the materials present and any deterioration products, but also understand the impact of the environmental on the collections. FTIR spectroscopy will be used to analyze glass, metal corrosion products, pigments, soluble salts and polymers both in situ and on removed samples in the laboratory. The supplier is expected to supply and install the FTIR spectroscopy system, give appropriate training and support, and to be able to maintain the system over a number of years (minimum 5 years for parts). Tendered prices should include equipment purchase price, delivery to English Heritage, installation, training and minimum one year warranty. It should also include, itemized separately, the optional costs of maintenance contracts for the system, for one, two and three year periods after expiry of the warranty.
