## Summary

Public Health England is conducting a tender for the "Provision of Gamma ray spectrometer and Contamination monitor", with a total value of £34,000. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically focusing on radiation monitors and spectrometers. The tender is currently active and will close on 25 February 2021 at 12:00 PM. The intended delivery addresses for the equipment range from the United Kingdom to various overseas territories, including Europe and the Channel Islands. The contract period is expected to start on 26 February 2021 and run until 25 February 2022.

This procurement presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in the manufacturing or supply of radiation monitoring equipment and spectrometers. Companies capable of providing advanced, compact, and portable instruments that meet the stringent technical specifications outlined in the tender are well-suited to compete. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the relevant engineering and technical fields can leverage this opportunity to enhance their market presence and potentially engage in future contracts with public health authorities.

## Notice

Public Health England (PHE) is seeking to purchase a multifunctional gamma-ray spectrometer and multi-purpose radiation survey meter. The survey meter operating in both contamination and dose rate measuring modes: the instrument must detect alpha, beta, gamma, and X-ray surface contamination and be capable of measuring X-ray and gamma dose rates with energies in the range of 17 keV - 3 MeV. The equipment will be used for the rapid determination of activities of gamma emitters in field surveys or samplings. It needs to be suitable for field survey measurements. The requirement must meet the following mandatory features. The multifunctional gamma-ray spectrometer must have/be : - compact, portable, and digital (~ 4 kg) - A built-in computer for complex analysis of the measured data - Wireless communication via Blue-tooth, Wi-Fi - USB port so data can be exported to other devices - Real time result stamped by integrated GPS - Rechargeable power supply (giving at least 10 hours of measurement) - able to operate in outdoor temperatures ranging between at least -10 to +40 degC and be dust and water resistant - Monitor and analysis results to be displayed on a large (sun readable) colour graphic display - an audible speaker and built in microphone for voice recordings, so observations can be recorded and stored with each measurement. - High sensitivity using a NaI(Tl) scintillator detector (3 '' base diameter and 3 '' height) giving good resolution - Advanced DSP spectrometer specifications - with 1024 channel, 40 MHz DSP, linear energy corrected pile-up rejector and 200 nS resolution - Automatic stabilisation on natural background - Two working modes: survey for terrain scanning and Assay for determining concentrations of pre-calibrated radionuclides. - Energy calibration of the analyser would be carried out continuously throughout the operating time - Acquired data is stored in the memory and can be exported to other devices via USB, Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. The survey meter must have/be: - Light weight (~0.5 kg), compact, and a rugged 'in one hand' unit - Water-resistant rubber seals - A digital LCD numeric display with a backlight facility - A peak measurement function for determining radiation levels remotely in difficult to access areas - An audible response - Displays in uSv/h and cps - Dose rate range of 0.1 uSv/h to 2 mSv/h. Deadtime correction allowing gamma measurements up to 1999 uSv/h - Contamination range of 0.1 to 20,000 cps - Various adjustable alarms (count rate, exposure, dose and counting alarms) - Designed to work with standard 'off the shelf' standard-size batteries (alkaline and/or rechargeable), providing at least 500 hours of operation (assuming the backlight is off), and provide a low battery indication If you feel that you can meet the above requirements or would like more information, then please contact Aysel Sarzosa (Aysel.Sarzosa@phe.gov.uk) The closing date and time for any queries is 25 February 2020 at 12:00 pm.
