## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority is seeking tenders for the "ExCALIBUR Fusion Modelling System FM-WP1 Numerical representation: Numerical Analysis Procurement (Project NEPTUNE)" project, which is focused on advancing simulation codes for future supercomputer architectures. This procurement falls under the software package and information systems industry category and has a total contract value of £216,000, with a minimum value of £200,000. The tender is currently in the active stage and will close for submissions on 17th June 2022. The contract is expected to commence on 18th June 2022, lasting until 19th June 2022, with deliverables potentially required in various locations, including the UK and Europe.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in software development and related services, particularly those that can innovate in simulation code design for supercomputers. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may find the project accessible, given their eligibility to participate. Firms with expertise in experimental development services and research design are well-suited to compete for this contract, allowing them to expand their portfolio and reputation in cutting-edge simulation technology to meet the evolving demands of high-performance computing.

## Notice

Radical changes to supercomputer architectures are on the horizon. The current simulation codes, that much of UK science relies upon, are designed for current supercomputer architectures. These codes will, at best, not be able to fully exploit the power that the supercomputers of the mid-2020s will deliver; at worst, they will run slower on those machines than they do now. Future computers will be more energy efficient and so the longer we rely upon the current approach, the more expensive the solution will be. Therefore, it is essential that we invest now in redesigning those simulation codes so that they perform well on the future generations of supercomputers.
