## Summary

Newcastle University has recently completed a tender for the supply of an Agitated Cell Reactor System aimed at enhancing its research capabilities in Process Intensification. This procurement falls within the industry category of "Instruments for checking physical characteristics" and has a contract value of £80,000. The procurement process was conducted via an open method, with the tender period concluding on 1st September 2020. The contract execution commenced on 21st October 2020 and is set to run until 18th January 2021. Located in Newcastle, England, Newcastle University's contact for this procurement is Dave Anderson.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in laboratory equipment and scientific instrumentation, particularly small and medium enterprises (SMEs) that can provide innovative solutions. Companies engaged in manufacturing advanced reactor systems or related technology may find this a prime opportunity to engage with a reputable academic institution. Additionally, the integration of funds from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking underscores the potential for collaboration in cutting-edge research and development projects, making it an attractive avenue for growth in the sector.

## Notice

Newcastle University has long-running and successful research programmes on Process Intensification, investigating and developing new technology for bio-fuels, bio renewable chemicals, CO2 capture and conversion and pharmaceutical processes. Process development and intensification for liquid-liquid-solid bio refining applications are an integral part of such programmes and capacity increase through acquisition of an agitated cell-reactor system is the envisaged solution. By "Agitated Cell" we mean a continuous flow reactor in which the cell itself (i.e. the entire reactor cell) is moving cyclically at a set frequency to create the mixing effect inside the reactor in conjunction with insets inside the reactor cell , by opposition to typical stirred cells in which a stirrer inside the cell is the moving part that agitates and mixes the fluid, and by opposition to oscillatory flow reactors (e.g. oscillatory baffled reactors) in which it is the oscillation in flow rate/flow direction that created the mixing. This project has received funding from the Bio Based Industries Joint Undertaking (JU) under grant agreement No 887226. The JU receives support from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and the Bio Based Industries Consortium. The scope of this contract is for the supply, delivery and installation of equipment as detailed in the ITT to the University, with a minimum 12 months warranty.
