## Summary

The procurement process involves Newcastle University seeking suppliers for the design, supply, installation, and commissioning of a LoRaWAN network as part of its Urban Observatory project in Newcastle upon Tyne. The total value of this contract is £80,000, and the procurement method adopted is an open procedure. The tender period concluded on 16 March 2020, with the contract period commencing from 19 October 2020 and set to end on 18 January 2021. The project aims to enhance data collection through low powered sensors, which will be vital for various stakeholders including researchers and local authorities.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) engaged in telecommunications, network equipment supply, or related services. Companies that specialise in technology solutions such as modems, network routers, and gateway software will find this contract particularly relevant. Engaging with Newcastle University and contributing to the Urban Observatory project can facilitate growth through collaborative innovation and the potential for long-term partnerships in smart city initiatives.

## Notice

The Urban Observatory is a research project at Newcastle University funded from a variety of sources. It seeks to understand how a city system functions and how different parameters interact (e.g. heat island effect and green spaces, flooding and traffic congestion). The majority of our sensor data is made available under an open licence. More information is available at www.urbanobservatory.ac.uk. Data provided by the observatory is used by researchers, local authorities, and members of the public. In collaboration with city stakeholders including Newcastle City Council, we intend to deploy a LoRaWAN network covering part of Newcastle upon Tyne, to increase our ability to use low powered sensors. The scope of this contract is for the supply and delivery of equipment and services as detailed in the Invitation to Tender document to the University, with after-sales support and 36 months warranty and maintenance
