## Summary

The Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has awarded a contract for planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and inspections of fire dampers at Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. This procurement falls under the services category with a specific focus on fire-protection devices (CPV code: 44482000). The contract, through an open procedure, commenced on 1st April 2025 and will run until 31st March 2028. Key dates include the tender deadline on 20th December 2024, and the award date on 3rd February 2025. The Trust serves a diverse set of locations including the Cheshire and Merseyside region, the Isle of Man, and North Wales.

This tender presents significant business growth opportunities, particularly for SMEs equipped to handle extensive maintenance and inspections of fire safety equipment. By engaging in this long-term contract, businesses can secure recurring revenue streams and establish a solid relationship with the reputable Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. The focus on sustainability and ethical trading practices in procurement further creates avenues for businesses specialising in green products and services. The successful supplier, Urmson Fire Specialists Ltd, exemplifies the type of large-scale enterprise suited to delivering these specialised services. Smaller firms looking to expand operations and demonstrate expertise in fire safety and preventative maintenance could also find substantial opportunities in similar future tenders.

## Notice

Mersey & West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust serve a core population of over 600,000 with a combined workforce of around 9,000 highly committed and skilled staff delivering acute hospital care, intermediate care, primary care and community-based services. The Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Northwest Regional Spinal Injuries Centre at Southport Hospital serves a population of over 4 million across the whole of Cheshire and Merseyside, The Isle of Man and North Wales. Objectives for Sustainable Procurement Sustainability in purchasing need not necessarily cost more and there is now a much wider choice of environmentally friendly products. "Green goods" are not necessarily more expensive; often if the 'whole life cost' of a product is considered the cheapest product is more expensive in the long run. Whole life costing means taking into account the total cost of an item over its lifetime such as raw materials sourcing, running costs, transportation, admin costs and disposal costs. The overarching objective is for sustainability considerations to be addressed within the procurement cycle in all instances. The more specific objectives in terms of sustainable procurement are: To seek alternatives to products and processes which are detrimental to the environment and social well-being by using more environmentally friendly and ethically traded products and processes. To minimise waste, including: any packaging, waste produced by the product (or service) in question, and waste generated by the eventual disposal of the product. MWL are looking for a partner to carry out planned preventative maintenance and inspections to the fire dampers at Southport District General Hospital and Ormskirk District General Hospital. Inspections will be required to develop a detailed list of remedial work that has been identified and it will be the suppliers responsibility to carry out all of the remedials as per the specification.
