## Summary

The public procurement process for the Energy Data Review, initiated by ENERGY SYSTEMS CATAPULT LIMITED, aims to explore the multi-vector energy system and expand on data solutions within the energy sector. This project falls under the category of Energy and related services, with a total contract value of £140,000. The procurement method employed for this tender is a single tender action, which is below the threshold. The contract period commenced on 16 October 2017 and will conclude on 15 March 2018. The tender period closed on 29 September 2017, and bids were expected to be delivered to multiple locations, including the United Kingdom and Europe.

This contract presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that specialise in energy data management or related consultancy services. Companies offering innovative solutions in energy supply management and the development of new business models, particularly those that can adapt to evolving consumer needs and technological changes, would be well-suited to compete. This tender may allow successful bidders to play a crucial role in the transition of the energy sector towards more flexible and efficient systems.

## Notice

The Project will consider the multi-vector energy system as a whole and needs to be extensible and scalable to support this. However, it is proposed to focus initially on the data and information needs in the rapidly evolving area of intermittent and distributed energy supply and demand, including the potential for an "Energy as a Service" style business model. This focus is proposed as it is very volatile in terms of evolving technologies, business/commercial models, changing consumer needs and behaviours. There is a need for distributed/flexible demand management solutions to match the increasingly distributed/intermittent generation/supply. It is therefore potentially the most open to innovation and new solutions and business models, compared to the large-scale generation, transmission and distribution part of the sector. Another major change anticipated for the Industry is a move away from providing distribution networks that are sized for the largest credible load that could be experienced, towards actively managing non-time critical customer load to keep energy flows within the network capability. This would allow more energy to be delivered by the same assets, but has implications for the data flows required by the distribution companies.
