## Summary

The University of Manchester has completed the procurement process for Automation Systems for DNA & RNA Sequencing Preparation, with the award dated 26 November 2024. This procurement falls under the industry category of Laboratory, optical and precision equipment (excluding glasses). The systems will be housed within the National Biomarker Centre (NBC) located on Wilmslow Road, Manchester (postal code M13 9PL). The procurement followed an open procedure, and the contract period will run from 26 November 2024 to 6 August 2025. The supplier awarded the contract is Hamilton Sales and Service LTD, based in Forge Mills Business Park, Birmingham.

This tender offers significant opportunities for businesses specialising in laboratory automation and DNA/RNA sequencing technology. The systems will enable the National Biomarker Centre to handle large volumes of patient DNA sequencing preparations efficiently, allowing scientific staff to focus on other experimental processes. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in high throughput DNA sequencing and automation systems would be well-suited to compete for future similar projects, given the demand for standardised and efficient analytical tools in cancer research. Additionally, businesses that can contribute to the continuous advancement of laboratory automation might find ample room for growth and collaboration with research institutions.

Background information on Project The University of Manchester wishes to purchase Automation Systems for DNA & RNA Sequencing Preparation. The facility will be housed within the National Biomarker Centre (NBC) within the Paterson Building on Wilmslow road. These automotive systems will allow a high throughput of DNA Sequencing Preparations in a standardised fashion for analysis of patient samples for Cancer Research. These systems will be used on multiple research projects freeing up scientific staff for other experimental processes. 3. Project Overview This project aims to enable Automation Systems for DNA and RNA Sequencing Preparation capability for our Nucleic Acid Biomarker (NAB) team in the National Biomarker Centre (NBC). There are two main current area of interest for DNA Sequencing Preparation they are methylation (T7-MBD-Seq) & Targeted Next Generation Sequencing analysis. Each area of interest has large research and translational projects, with up to 10,000 samples for each. Other area of development relate to Whole Genome Sequencing (WGS) of DNA, and RNA sequencing. As these projects contain large cohorts of patient samples, the manual processes for DNA sequencing preparation becomes very labour intensive. Automation of these pr...
