## Summary

The procurement process titled "Better BSOG Alpha & Beta" was conducted by the Department for Transport (DfTc) in the United Kingdom. This project falls under the IT services category, involving software development and support to improve the Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) payment system. The tender process employed a selective procurement method through a call-off from a framework agreement. While the tender period concluded on 28th May 2026, the contract period extends from 25th June 2026 to 24th June 2028. The award status is active with a contract value of £2,300,000, and the contract was awarded to Version1 Solutions Limited, a large-scale entity based in Birmingham, on 24th June 2026. Key locations covered include not only various UK regions but also international territories like British Overseas Territories and the Channel Islands.

This tender presents an opportunity for businesses specialising in IT consulting and software development, particularly those capable of modernising legacy systems. SME businesses with expertise in facilitating efficient grant processing could benefit from future opportunities in similar government projects. As the procurement method involved a framework agreement, businesses already part of such frameworks and looking to expand into public sector IT services will find this project indicative of the type of contracts that may arise. The focus on system enhancement aligns with broader governmental priorities to streamline operations and reduce operational downtimes, offering a growth avenue for companies adept in these domains.

## Notice

BSOG aims to benefit passengers by helping operators keep fares down and enabling operators to run services that might otherwise be unprofitable and could lead to cancellation. This project will enable the grant to be processed and paid in a faster, more efficient manner. The system currently used to process and pay BSOG claims was released in 2023. This was a functional replica of the previous system, built in 2012, which frequently experienced periods of downtime and built on a version of Microsoft Access that was out of support. As this system was built as a direct replica of the previous system, no major new features or improvements were made. There is now an opportunity to redevelop the system, to do far more in a more efficient way
