## Summary

The procurement process involves the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) as the buying organisation, seeking to appoint a Principal Contractor for the "Meridian 1 CAV Central Testbed" project. This initiative is part of the Government's investment in Connected and Autonomous Vehicle (CAV) research and development, aimed at establishing the West Midlands as a centre for CAV development. The procurement is currently in the award stage, with the contract valued at £2,500,000 and scheduled to start on 3rd January 2020, running until 29th May 2020. The project encompasses the installation of traffic guidance equipment across a 300-kilometre testbed in Birmingham, Coventry, and Solihull.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the infrastructure and technology sectors, particularly those specialising in transportation systems, construction, and equipment installation. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) may find this particularly appealing, given the procurement’s method of selective tendering from a framework agreement, potentially allowing them to participate more easily. Companies with expertise in developing and delivering intelligent transport systems and related infrastructure projects would be well-suited to compete for this contract, ensuring alignment with the innovative CAV sector growth.
