## Summary

The procurement process initiated by Kent County Council involves the "SC22272 Arboricultural Works Term Contract," focusing on the provision of arboricultural services to maintain the county's highways. This contract, classified under CPV code 45112000 (Excavating and earthmoving work) with additional classification in agricultural and forestry services, is aimed at both tree maintenance and tree planting across the entire county (excluding Medway). The project is currently in the award stage with the tender process having concluded, and the contract was awarded to Gristwood and Toms Ltd and G. Bridgland Ltd. The total contract value is £14,403,806.29 with an initial term of 60 months starting on 1st September 2024, and an optional extension of up to 36 months, ending on 31st August 2032. Key procurement methods used were selective and negotiated procedures, providing a tailored approach to contract awarding.

This tender creates significant opportunities for businesses specialising in arboricultural work, highway maintenance, and environmental services. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as well as voluntary, community and social enterprises (VCSEs) are particularly well-suited to compete given the requirement for flexibility in responding to both programmed and emergency tree maintenance needs. The contract not only includes the removal of hazardous trees and branches but also replacement tree planting, making it an attractive opportunity for businesses committed to sustainability and environmental care. Additionally, with a substantial budget of up to £10 million and a focus on the entire county, the contract can significantly boost the growth and market reach of participating businesses.
