## Summary

The University of Birmingham has recently completed a public procurement process for the supply and installation of three dipole lasers, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of their Quantum Technology Innovation Hub. This procurement falls under the goods category, specifically within the lasers industry, and was conducted through an open procedure. Initially published on 10th August 2020, the tender had a deadline for submissions on 21st August 2020, with the associated contract period running from 25th September to 31st December 2020. The awarded contract, valued at up to £78,000 excluding VAT, is currently active, having been awarded on 6th October 2020.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in advanced laser technology and related systems. Companies proficient in the design, manufacture, and integration of high-performance laser equipment, particularly those that are SMEs, would find this tender well-suited to their capabilities. As the University of Birmingham seeks to enhance its research infrastructure, suppliers that can offer innovative solutions and reliable support will be in a strong position to compete and potentially expand their business through this project.

## Notice

Supply and Installation of Dipole Laser at 1064 NM to the University of Birmingham The Quantum Technology Innovation Hub (QTIH) at the University of Birmingham is part of the Quantum Hub for Sensors and Metrology. We are looking for 3 dipole lasers for creating the optical dipole trap of strontium. * Target operation wavelength of 1 mm to 1.5 mm. All specifications will be referenced at the wavelength unless otherwise specified. * Fiber laser will operate in continuous wave (cw) mode. Laser should be a fully automatic system ready to operate with a push of button or mouse click and enabling 24/7 operation which should be noise free without affecting any nearby device. * Output power greater than or equal to 15 watts. * Spectral width less than 20 kHz. * Noise of 0.02% RMS or better between 100 Hz and 10 MHz. * Long term power stability of +-2% or better. * TEM00 output with an M2 of 1.1 or better (closer to 1). * Output polarization either horizontal or vertical with an extinction ratio of 50:1 or better. * Physical dimensions of the laser head could be approximately 50cm x 45 cm x 15cm (l x w x h). * The laser should have full computer software support. * Computer control should have an easy integration with labview and python based programming languages. Overall budget for this item is up to PS78,000 excluding VAT. This project may be funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) or; - European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) or; - Research Councils UK (RCUK), the strategic partnership of the UK's seven Research Councils.
