## Summary

The Ministry of Defence, specifically the Ships, Naval Ships Support division, recently completed a tender titled "Trial of Ultrasonic Biofouling systems on OPV Batch 1 HVAC condenser system" within the anti-pollution ship services industry. This procurement process was categorised as a tender, with the contract valued at £600,000. Key dates include the end of the tender period on 17 December 2020 and the contract period commencing on 1 April 2021, lasting until 23 December 2022. The designated delivery location for this contract is in the South West region of the United Kingdom, particularly Bristol.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for companies specialising in marine environmental services, particularly those offering innovative solutions to combat biofouling in naval applications. With a focus on the implementation of ultrasonic antifouling systems, businesses that have experience delivering similar technologies or services to the naval sector would be well-positioned to engage in future contracts stemming from this trial. The competitive landscape could favour both recent entrants with innovative offerings and established players with a proven track record in the defence and maritime industries.

## Notice

A Fleet Minor Trial (FMT) is required to test a number of commercially available ultrasonic antifouling systems onboard RN vessels. In order to further assess the viability of implementing these systems to effectively prevent biofouling on board, 3 different systems from 3 original equipment manufacturers (one supplier per vessel) will be fitted to 3 Batch 1 River Class offshore patrol vessels for the yearlong study. The trial shall last one year (to cover all seasons of fouling) and be focused on vessels in similar waters (for comparative fouling gradients).
