## Summary

Sheffield Hallam University has successfully completed the procurement of an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP MS) along with a service contract. The procurement, carried out under Lot 1 of the NEUPC framework LAB1029 AP, falls under the mass spectrometer industry category. The Sheffield-based institution aimed to enhance its analytical capabilities for research and industry applications. The procurement process was selective, stemming from a framework agreement. The contract, valued at £226,198.91, began on 16th July 2024 and will run until 30th September 2029. The awarding decision was published on 29th July 2024, with the award date being 2nd July 2024.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in high-tech analytical instruments and servicing. SMEs and VCSEs are encouraged to participate in similar future tenders as they provide avenues for substantial industry contributions and research advancements. Companies with strengths in mass spectrometry, element quantification, and instrumentation servicing would be particularly well-suited to compete in these tenders, benefiting from the association with a prominent educational institution like Sheffield Hallam University and its extensive research projects.

## Notice

The University has purchased an Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometer (ICP MS) and a service contract, after carrying out a mini competition under Lot 1 of the NEUPC framework LAB1029 AP Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography Equipment. ICP-MS is a powerful analytical technique that allows elemental signatures of solutions, mixtures and solids to be determined and quantified. The purpose of the new purchase is to provide state-of-the-art instrumentation to the University. This piece of equipment will enable full benefit to be leveraged from our LA system due to faster scan speeds, much better capabilities for quantifying elements that are in low abundance and much better ability to deal with interferences affecting some of our key elements of interest. The enhanced capabilities will enable greater impact of research projects at all levels (from undergraduate research project up) and the benefits will also be available to industry through the Sheffield Multimodal Imaging Centre (SMIC).
