It supports the Government's Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme by ensuring that RHI payments are only issued to biomass boilers using woodfuel that meets certain sustainability and legal requirements. It allows RHI participants to easily demonstrate to Ofgem that the fuel they are using in their biomass boilers meets the RHI sustainability criteria required to claim their RHI payments. The BSL is currently administered and audited on behalf of BEIS by a third party.
