## Summary

The United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is currently running a tender titled "STEP WP5 - Repair of RNC Task 5.5.2", which focuses on the feasibility of applying various material deposition processes for the in-situ repair of plasma facing components in nuclear fusion reactors. The procurement process is in the active tendering stage, with a defined end date for submissions on 21 October 2019. The contract period is set to commence on 31 October 2019 and conclude on 1 March 2020. This tender falls within the services category and is classified under several relevant CPV codes, including feasibility studies and engineering services, with delivery anticipated in the South East region of the United Kingdom. The procurement method employed is an open procedure, allowing broad participation from interested suppliers.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses in the engineering and technical consultancy sectors, particularly those with expertise in material science and nuclear applications. Companies that can demonstrate capabilities in the assessment of material deposition techniques and a thorough understanding of remote handling technologies would be well-suited to take part in this tender. With the growing focus on innovation in nuclear fusion repair methods, this project could be a springboard for firms looking to expand their services and establish a foothold in a niche yet vital area of technology development within the energy sector.

## Notice

The Client (UKAEA) seeks to assess the viability of applying different material deposition processes remotely to in-situ repair plasma facing components in nuclear fusion reactors. The successful Consultant (Supplier) will be selected by the Client to research material deposition techniques provided by the Client, to identify typical operating parameters and the equipment required to apply these processes as repair techniques. The Consultant will then use this information to perform an assessment on the viability and technology readiness level of using these material deposition processes for in-situ repair and define the requirements on the remote handling deployment to apply these processes in situ. Finally, the Consultant will produce a basic concept design for in-situ repair tools for each of the material deposition techniques.
