## Summary

The National Nuclear Laboratory Limited is planning a procurement process titled "Non-destructive inspection of redundant flasks" in the Nuclear evaluation instruments industry category. The tender stage is currently at planning, with an engagement end date set for 26th February 2024. The procurement aims to identify technological solutions for inspecting large shielded containers without opening them, inviting organisations with radiological characterisation expertise to participate.

This tender by the National Nuclear Laboratory Limited provides an opportunity for businesses, particularly in research and development and nuclear evaluation instruments sectors, to showcase their capabilities. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) with expertise in radiological techniques would be well-suited to compete. The outcome of the tender may lead to a full procurement exercise in the future if successful solutions are identified, potentially benefiting all potential suppliers involved in flask inspection.

## Notice

This PIN is to inform the supply chain that Sellafield Ltd are seeking a technological solution or solutions that will enable them to identify the contents and activity levels of redundant large heavily shielded containers (flasks) without moving, opening, or damaging them. Interested technology providers should complete and submit a Game Changers application via the Game Changers website (www.gamechangers.technology). The challenge is open to any organisation who feel they can meet the technical requirements. The closing date for applications will be 26th February 2024. Interested organisations should note that the issue of this PIN may not result in a full procurement exercise being conducted. The outcome of the Game Changers challenge will determine whether a full procurement exercise will follow. We would therefore encourage any organisation that has the capability, knowledge and experience in techniques that can be used to inspect and perform radiological characterisation on the inside of closed containers to respond to this PIN and visit the Game Changers (https://www.gamechangers.technology/) website for further information on this Game Changers challenge. If Sellafield progress to a future procurement opportunity for flask inspection, the learning gathered from the Game Changers technology study may be shared with all potential suppliers, noting that commercially sensitive information will not be included.
