The Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) Joint Venture was awarded the Main Works Construction Contract for the Northern section of HS2 Phase 1 in 2019. This contract is expected to run through to 2030 and encompasses all the main civil engineering and environmental works required to deliver the operational railway. Both HS2 and BBV have an aspiration for no net loss of biodiversity making ecology core to delivery of the project. BBV delivers ecological works via a team of in-house ecologists supported by consultants and seconded staff from the supply chain. It is BBV's intention to re-engage with the supply chain to ensure the right resources are available to support BBV's ambitious 2025-2030 ecology programme. BBV intends to replace existing secondment agreements with new Professional Services Contracts with a pool of specialist service providers including SME's. Professional Services Contracts will offer the flexibility for ecology secondments as well as ad-hoc professional services deliverables.
