## Summary

SITA is seeking a senior specialist or engineer to provide technical leadership for the operational support, maintenance and continual improvement of Heathrow Airport’s mission-critical communications infrastructure. The service covers a diverse estate of legacy and modern radio systems, RF-over-fibre distributed antenna systems, public and private cellular networks, and IP-based communications platforms. Scope includes TETRA, DMR, PMR and MPT1327 radio, 2G/3G/4G/5G cellular infrastructure, mission-critical dispatch systems, fibre and IP communications, subscriber devices, vehicle installations, antennas and RF distribution. The work supports communications across terminals, tunnels, plant rooms, communications rooms, baggage facilities, engineering areas and airside operational environments at Heathrow Airport. This is a specialist technical service, classified under recruitment services and technical services.

The process has reached tender: SITA invited suppliers to submit offers for the requirement. The tender deadline set by the buyer is 4 September 2026 at 5:00pm. The contract is scheduled to run from 1 October 2026 to 31 August 2028. Its estimated value is between £150,000 and £250,000, inclusive of the stated minimum and maximum values, in GBP. The opportunity is identified as suitable for small and medium-sized enterprises. The requirement is presented as a single service covering the senior specialist engineering role and associated operational support. Suppliers should assess the detailed tender requirements and prepare an offer addressing the technical and service leadership responsibilities described for Heathrow’s communications environment.

This opportunity suits an experienced mission-critical communications engineering provider or specialist individual able to take senior technical ownership of a complex operational estate. Relevant capability includes advanced radio-frequency and cellular engineering across TETRA, DMR, PMR, MPT1327 and 2G/3G/4G/5G systems, together with RF-over-fibre distributed antenna systems, IP networks, fibre infrastructure and dispatch platforms. Suppliers should be able to lead fault resolution, maintenance and continual service improvement while keeping communications resilient and supportable. The role also demands operational leadership, service transition, supplier and manufacturer management, engineering-partner coordination and effective engagement with customers, project teams and other stakeholders. Experience supporting subscriber equipment, vehicle installations and communications across demanding airport or other safety-critical environments would be particularly relevant. The opportunity is suitable for SMEs with the necessary specialist capacity.
