This project aims to explore the implementation of in-school units and nurture groups in English mainstream schools, focusing on improving behaviour and supporting pupils at risk of exclusion. The project will entail quantitative and qualitative research to understand schools' use and implementation of in-school units and nurture groups across England, what they are designed to do, how they function and are resourced, and to gather an assessment of what 'good' looks like for different types of unit. The findings from this project will be used to inform guidance and recommendations to schools on the use of in-school units. It is anticipated that the contract will run for approximately 4 months, with a final research report required at the end of March 2020.
