## Summary

Newcastle University has completed a procurement process for the supply of an Automated Optical Inspection System, part of the Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) programme aimed at enhancing clean technologies within various sectors, including transport and energy. The tender was conducted under a selective procurement method, with the tender period concluding on 24 March 2021, and the contract period spanning from 31 March 2021 to 30 July 2021. The project is budgeted at £250,000, focusing on the delivery and commissioning of related equipment as part of Newcastle University’s establishment of a new DER Innovation Centre in the North East of England.

This tender presents significant opportunities for businesses specialising in electrical machinery and equipment, particularly those with capabilities in automated optical inspection technology. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the manufacturing and technology sectors, especially those who can provide comprehensive after-sales support and maintenance, would be well-suited to compete for future contracts arising from this initiative. The focus on innovation in power electronics suggests a growing demand for expertise in clean technology solutions within the UK market.

## Notice

The Driving the Electric Revolution (DER) is an Innovate UK (IUK) Challenge program to support UK industry to seize the economic opportunities from the global transition to clean technologies and electrification. The programme will help businesses across numerous sectors including transport, energy, construction and agriculture to invest and work together to capitalise on the UK's strengths in this technology. As part of that program, Newcastle University has been awarded a large grant to establish a new DER Innovation Centre (DER-IC) in the North East of England. The NE DER-IC will concentrate on the prototyping and scale-up of power electronics and electric motors. This tender is focussed on the power electronics aspect and specifically the purchase of relevant automated optical inspection (AOI) systems for in-line optical inspection of circuit boards pre and post reflow furnace processing. The scope is for the supply, delivery, and commissioning of the equipment as detailed in the Invitation to Tender document, with after sales support, a minimum 12 months parts and labour warranty and maintenance. This requirement was only advertised to all Sellers appointed to Lot 12: Visual Inspection of (NU/1609) Power Electronics Manufacturing Dynamic Purchasing System.
