## Summary

The University of Bristol is seeking to procure an Atomic Layer Deposition Tool for thin-film photovoltaic devices, valued at £160,000. This procurement, classified under laboratory, optical and precision equipment, is currently in the Tender stage, with the deadline for submissions set for 16 April 2021. The contract period will run from 10 May 2021 until 30 September 2022. The delivery location is in the South West region of the United Kingdom, and the procurement method follows an open procedure, particularly targeting SMEs and VCSEs.

This tender presents valuable opportunities for businesses operating within the laboratory and precision equipment sector, especially those specialising in manufacturing or supplying advanced materials and scientific instrumentation. Companies with expertise in thin-film technology, solar energy solutions, or those that offer innovative engineering tools that enhance material processing at the atomic level would be well-suited to compete for this contract, potentially contributing to advancements in sustainable energy technologies.

## Notice

The aim of the project is to establish scalable solution processing of active materials in inorganic thin-film solar cells. The work programme tackles the processing of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 and CuIn(S,Se)2 absorbers as well as buffer layers requires for charge extraction under solar irradiation. The Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) tool is pivotal in the engineering of the interface between absorber and buffer layers. The tool enables constructing the absorber/buffer junction atom by atom. This is key towards maximising the output voltage of the devices.
