## Summary

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has completed the award stage for the extension and refurbishment of PS Trent House Approved Premises in Nottingham. The project aims to increase the number of AP bed spaces for high-risk offenders as part of the prison reform programme. This initiative involves a two-storey extension and fit-for-purpose refurbishment to ensure safe living spaces for rehabilitation, including ancillary facilities such as storage, leisure rooms, bathrooms, and laundry. The construction is set to begin on 17th March 2025 and end on 20th April 2026, with Wates Construction Limited appointed as the contractor under a selective call-off from the MoJ Constructor Services Framework. The total construction cost is estimated at £6.9 million.

This tender presents significant growth opportunities for businesses specialising in construction, particularly those experienced in secure facility projects. Companies can benefit from government contracts that provide substantial value and long-term work. Though large businesses like Wates Construction Limited have been selected for this project, small and medium enterprises can explore subcontracting opportunities. The project aligns with the CPV category of probation services, creating further niche opportunities in the development of rehabilitation facilities.

## Notice

The client, the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), is seeking to increase the number of AP bed spaces to support the prison reform programme and respond to the parole board policy which is leading to an increased dependence on APs. Trent House, Nottingham has been identified by the NPS Board as a priority in their NPS APs Expansion Programme. After consultation with stakeholders, the MoJ have confirmed the need for a fit-for-purpose refurbishment & 2-storey extension that provides a safe living space for rehabilitation but also ensures the safety and security of staff and residents. This includes provision for ancillary facilities such as storage, leisure / living rooms, bathrooms, and laundry. This project will provide an additional net gain of 15 bed spaces including 2 DDA compliant bedrooms. This is equivalent to (up to) 120 high risk offenders in a community over a year. A constructor has been appointed for the design and build of the project from the MoJ Constructor Services Framework. This is a two stage Design and Build Contract let under the PPC2000 (Amended 2013) Form of contract. It is expected that the total construction cost of the project will be cPS6.9m.
