## Summary

The University of Nottingham is seeking to procure "Rainout Shelters Running on Rails" as part of its investment in agricultural research infrastructure. The project falls under the agricultural machinery industry category and will be based in the East Midlands, UK. The current procurement stage is the Tender phase, with the deadline for submissions set for 25 May 2019. This competitive procedure with negotiation has an estimated contract value of £250,000 and is intended to commence on 22 July 2019, running until 26 July 2020.

This tender presents a significant opportunity for businesses specialising in agricultural machinery, particularly those with expertise in automated systems capable of responding to environmental conditions. Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and voluntary, community, and social enterprises (VCSEs) stand to benefit, as the University is keen to support diverse suppliers in this competitive process. Companies that can offer innovative, portable solutions for managing crop conditions while minimizing environmental impact would be well-suited to compete for this contract.

## Notice

The University of Nottingham is long established as a leader in plant and crop science research. As part of the future food beacon of excellence, the University is investing in its research infrastructure and wishes to commission a rain out shelter. The purpose of the rain out shelter is to be able to manipulate growing conditions,in the field, to simulate drought at specific stages of crop development. For example, to exclude any rainfall during the grain filling period of wheat. To enable this, we wish to commission shelters that respond to rain and only move into position when needed. This means that crops grow in natural, field conditions, for the majority of their growth and are only covered when it is actually raining. The shelters must, therefore, be self-propelled and able to move into position in response to rain. It is important that they are sufficiently portable to be able to be moved between fields to avoid problems with crop rotation.
